In search for a purpose...a prayer

"There are very few people who realize what God would do with them if they abandoned themselves into his hands, and let themselves be formed by his grace." -- St. Ignatius

There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires. -- Nelson Mandela

It is a beautiful thing, desire. It can fuel the mind, spirit and body to do amazing things. It can change the world. But it can also die. Bring us back to the place where we recognize that we have nothing. That in you, we live and move and have our being. Take us down the road to freedom, and shelter us through the valley. Give us mercy and grace for the journey. Renew our joy and give us peace that we cannot understand.

Take us back to the mountaintops you created and let us again see the desires you shaped in us and you long to fulfill. Shower down on us the assurance of your love. Give us belonging and a Father's pride. Speak into the brokenness and darkness with the light of your presence. Clean out our minds and our souls to live on the substance of the Divine. True relationship with you, the creator. Fill us with your life and spirit

O God, have mercy on us sinners....

Thank You, Sam, for your post and your prayer. I went to your blog with an anxious regret about my inability to engage in our most recent phone conversation and a sliver of hope that you might have finally posted something new - giving me evidence that you had managed to survive the assaults on hope that have plagued me in recent months. Your prayer is my prayer. It meant a great deal to see it this morning.

Thank you for hoping and crying out to God for us.

Not sure what to write other than it's good to have prayers from the gut.
